You can use Kroger fuel points at two kinds of stations: Kroger Family fuel centers, and participating partner stations. Kroger names Shell, bp, Amoco and Turkey Hill as partners, plus other local brands that vary by region.
Every 100 points takes 10¢ off each gallon, up to $1 per gallon on as many as 35 gallons. That’s a maximum of $35 off one fill-up, though Kroger says some locations set different limits.
This guide explains which stations take your points, exactly what to do at the pump, and what to check when the discount doesn’t show up.
Which gas stations accept Kroger fuel points?
Kroger’s Points FAQ says you can redeem at “participating Kroger Family Fuel Centers and participating partner stations in your area.” The word that matters there is participating, because not every station of a brand takes part.
| Station type | Examples | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Kroger Family fuel centers | Kroger, Ralphs, Fred Meyer, King Soopers, Fry’s, Smith’s and other Kroger brands | You choose which month’s points to use |
| Partner stations | Shell, bp, Amoco, Turkey Hill, other local partners | Your oldest points are used first |
| Non-participating stations | Any station not in Kroger’s fuel locator | Points can’t be used |
Kroger’s own words are that partners “vary by region and may include” those brands. A Shell in one state might take part while a Shell in the next town doesn’t.
Can you use Kroger fuel points at Shell?
Yes, at participating Shell stations. Kroger has a dedicated page for this, which says fuel points “can be redeemed to SAVE at the pump at participating Shell stations and our Fuel Centers.”

Shell also runs its own Fuel Rewards program. That’s a separate Shell account with its own rules, and it isn’t the same as your Kroger balance.
What about bp, Amoco and Turkey Hill?
All three are on Kroger’s list of possible partners. Amoco is a bp brand in the U.S., and Turkey Hill stations are mostly found in Pennsylvania and nearby states.
The safest check is Kroger’s fuel location finder, which is linked from the Points FAQ. It only lists stations that currently accept points.
Do Kroger fuel points work at Speedway, Costco or Walmart?
None of these appear on Kroger’s partner list. Kroger only names Shell, bp, Amoco and Turkey Hill, so don’t count on points at other brands unless the locator shows them.
Warehouse clubs and big-box stores run their own fuel programs. Your Kroger balance won’t carry over to them.
How do you redeem fuel points at a Kroger fuel center?
Kroger gives two ways to apply points at its own pumps. Both end with the discount applied automatically before you start fueling.

Method 1: The pump keypad
- Enter your Alt ID (your phone number) or insert your Rewards card.
- When prompted, select how many points you want to redeem.
- Choose your fuel grade and start pumping.
- The discount is taken off automatically.
Pay attention at step 2. If you skip the prompt or hit the wrong option, you may fill up at the regular member price and keep your points for later.
Method 2: Kroger Pay in the app
- Open the Kroger app and select Kroger Pay.
- Choose “Use at the pump.”
- Follow the prompts to pick the points you want to redeem.
- Choose your fuel grade and start pumping.
The app method is handy if you’ve left your card at home or want to see your balance before deciding how much to use.
Choosing which month’s points to use
At Kroger Family fuel centers, you can pick exactly which month’s balance to spend. That matters because points expire at the end of the month after you earn them.
Always choose the older month first. Points earned in September expire on October 31, while October points last until November 30.
How do you redeem points at a partner station?
Kroger’s FAQ keeps this part short. It says “refer to partner location for Points redemption instructions,” so the steps can differ from a Kroger pump.
There’s one rule Kroger does spell out. At partner stations, “your oldest Points are used first.” You can’t choose a month the way you can at a Kroger fuel center.
That’s usually fine, since the oldest points are the ones closest to expiring. It only matters if you were saving a specific month for a bigger fill-up.
Before you pull in, check the locator to confirm the station participates. If you’re unsure at the pump, ask the attendant before you start fueling, not after.
How much can you save on one fill-up?
The discount grows by 10¢ per gallon for each 100 points. Kroger’s FAQ caps it at $1 per gallon on up to 35 gallons per transaction.
| Points redeemed | Discount per gallon | Savings on 12 gallons | Savings on 20 gallons |
|---|---|---|---|
| 100 | 10¢ | $1.20 | $2.00 |
| 300 | 30¢ | $3.60 | $6.00 |
| 500 | 50¢ | $6.00 | $10.00 |
| 1,000 | $1.00 | $12.00 | $20.00 |
The table shows why a nearly empty tank is the best time to redeem. The same 1,000 points save $12 on a 12-gallon fill-up and $20 on 20 gallons.
Kroger adds a footnote: “Maximum fuel discount and gallon limits may vary by location.” Some stations allow more than $1 per gallon, and some set a different gallon cap.
When should you use points for groceries instead?
Each 100 points is worth a flat $1 off groceries. At the pump, they’re worth 10¢ times the gallons you buy, so fuel only wins once you pump more than 10 gallons.
If you drive a small car, fill up in small amounts, or live far from a participating station, groceries may give you more. Our Kroger Points guide compares both options in detail.
A worked example: planning one redemption
Say it’s the last week of October and your app shows 850 points. 400 of them were earned in September and expire on October 31. The other 450 were earned in October and last until November 30.
At a Kroger fuel center, you could spend just the 400 September points for 40¢ off per gallon. On a 15-gallon fill-up, that saves $6.00, and you keep the October points for later.
At a partner station, the oldest points go first anyway. If you redeem 800 points there, the 400 September points are used, plus 400 from October, for 80¢ off per gallon.
Either way, the September points don’t go to waste. The difference is that a Kroger fuel center lets you decide how much of the newer balance to keep.
Can you get a discount without using points?
Yes. Kroger says Rewards members “automatically receive 3¢ off per gallon at participating fuel locations, even before using any Points.”

This member price is available at participating locations, and Kroger notes that it varies by location. Enter your Alt ID even when you don’t plan to redeem points, so you at least get the 3¢.
Can you use Kroger fuel points while traveling?
Yes. Kroger says your points “travel with you across our family of brands.” You can redeem them at participating stores, fuel centers and partner stations nationwide.
That means points from a Kroger in Tennessee work at a Fred Meyer fuel center in Oregon or a Fry’s in Arizona. You don’t need a separate account for each brand.
Before a road trip, look up participating stations along your route with Kroger’s store locator. Plan your redemption for the stop where you’ll pump the most gallons.
A short road-trip checklist
- Check your balance and which month’s points expire first.
- Map participating Kroger Family fuel centers and partner stations on your route.
- Save your redemption for the stop where the tank is lowest.
- Bring your card, or make sure you know your Alt ID and have the Kroger app signed in.
- Keep each fill-up under the 35-gallon standard limit.
Brand names change by region. A Fred Meyer in Oregon, a Smith’s in Utah and a Fry’s in Arizona are all Kroger family stores. Our Kroger family of companies list shows which brands belong where.
Where does your fuel discount come from?
Fuel points come from regular shopping. Kroger’s FAQ lists 1 point per $1 on most groceries, 2 points per $1 on most gift cards, and set amounts for prescriptions.
Gift cards are the quickest builder. Buying a $100 third-party gift card for a store you already use adds 200 points, worth 20¢ off per gallon.
The receipt survey adds another 50 points, limited to one bonus every 7 days. Our Kroger feedback survey guide shows each step.
Kroger Boost members earn 2X points on most purchases, according to Kroger’s June 2026 announcement. See our Kroger Boost guide to find out whether the membership pays for itself.
Building points before a big fill-up
If you’re short of the next 100, a few legitimate moves can close the gap before your points expire.
| Option | Points | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Regular groceries | 1 per $1 | Most groceries qualify; alcohol and tobacco don’t |
| Third-party gift card | 2 per $1 | Kroger Family gift cards and some prepaid cards don’t earn |
| Prescription (not federally funded) | 25 per script | 75 for a 90-day script |
| Receipt survey | 50 bonus | One bonus per 7 days |
| Kroger Boost membership | 2X on qualifying purchases | Paid membership; fuel purchases are excluded |
Gift cards are the most practical option when you’re close. A $50 third-party card for a store you already use adds 100 points, worth another 10¢ off per gallon.
Common mistakes at the pump
Most lost savings come from small slip-ups, not from the program itself.
- Lifting the nozzle too early. Enter your Alt ID or card first, and wait for the points prompt.
- Driving to a non-participating station. Brand alone doesn’t tell you; the locator does.
- Redeeming on a small top-up. 1,000 points on 5 gallons saves $5, when the same points could save $10 on groceries.
- Waiting too long. Points saved for “next month” may expire before you get there.
- Going over the gallon limit. The discount covers up to 35 gallons per transaction in most locations.
One more thing: the discount applies per transaction. If you’re filling two vehicles, check how the station handles a second transaction before you start.
Why didn’t my fuel discount apply?
Most pump problems have a simple cause. Work through this table before you call Customer Care.
| What happened | Possible cause | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| No points prompt at the pump | Card or Alt ID wasn’t read | Re-enter the Alt ID or reinsert the card before lifting the nozzle |
| Station didn’t take points | It isn’t a participating location | Check Kroger’s fuel locator before your next fill-up |
| Discount smaller than expected | Fewer points selected, or a local limit applies | Check your balance and the station’s limits |
| Wrong month’s points used | Partner stations use oldest points first | Use a Kroger fuel center when you need to choose the month |
| Points gone before you used them | They passed their expiration date | Check your balance near the end of each month |
| Only 3¢ off | No points were redeemed, only the member price applied | Select points when prompted next time |
If a charge looks wrong, keep the pump receipt. Kroger Customer Care is at 1-800-KRO-GERS (1-800-576-4377), and our customer service guide lists other ways to reach them.
Tips for getting more from every fill-up
A few habits make the same points stretch further.
- Redeem when the tank is close to empty, so the per-gallon discount covers more gallons.
- Stay under 35 gallons per transaction, since that’s Kroger’s standard cap.
- Use a Kroger fuel center when you want to spend a specific month’s points.
- Check the locator before a trip so you don’t arrive at a non-participating station.
- Give your Alt ID even with zero points, to get the 3¢ member price.
Don’t forget about expiration. Points that you save for a “big” fill-up can disappear at the end of the month if that trip never happens.
Common questions about Kroger fuel points
Do I need my physical card at the pump?
No. You can enter your Alt ID (phone number) on the keypad or use Kroger Pay in the app instead of inserting the card.
Can I pay inside and still use points?
Kroger’s FAQ only describes the keypad and app methods at its fuel centers. If you want to pay inside, ask the attendant whether points can be applied there.
Do fuel points work at every Shell station?
No. Only participating Shell stations accept them. Check Kroger’s fuel locator for stations near you.
Is there a limit to how many gallons I can discount?
Kroger’s standard limit is 35 gallons per transaction, though the FAQ says this can vary by location.
Can I use fuel points at Ralphs or Fred Meyer fuel centers?
Yes. They’re part of the Kroger Family of stores, and Kroger says points work across its family of brands at participating locations.
Are fuel points still called fuel points?
Kroger renamed them “Points” in June 2026, since they can now be used on groceries too. The fuel discount itself works the same way.
