Last reviewed: October 23, 2026. Figures come from Kroger’s Points Program FAQ and its June 25, 2026 press release.
Kroger Points are the rewards you collect when you shop with a Kroger Rewards card or Alt ID. Every 100 points is worth either 10¢ off per gallon of fuel or $1 off groceries.
They used to be called Fuel Points. Kroger dropped the word “Fuel” in June 2026 because the same balance can now pay for groceries too. Points expire on the last day of the month after you earn them, so timing matters.
This guide covers how you earn points, what they’re worth, the limits on each type of reward, and how to avoid losing a balance you forgot about.

Are Fuel Points and Kroger Points the same thing?
Yes. In a press release dated June 25, 2026, Kroger said “Fuel Points” are now simply “Points.” Both names refer to the same points balance.
The rename came with a new option. Before, points mainly cut the price of gas. Now you can also turn them into dollars off your grocery bill, which helps people who don’t drive much.
You’ll still see the old name in places. The receipt survey at kroger.com/feedback, for example, still says “50 Fuel Points” as of October 2026. Both names describe the same balance.
How do you earn Kroger Points?
You earn points any time your Rewards card or Alt ID is attached to a purchase. That works in store and online, with Pickup or Delivery orders included.

Groceries
Most groceries earn 1 point for every $1 you spend. A $120 weekly shop adds about 120 points, which is enough for 12¢ off per gallon or $1.20 off a later grocery order.
Kroger’s FAQ also tells shoppers to look for bonus points promotions. These add extra points on top of the base rate, so they build a balance without extra spending.
Prescriptions
Pharmacy rewards work differently. A prescription that isn’t federally funded earns 25 points. A 90-day prescription earns 75 points.
Federally funded prescriptions, such as those paid through Medicare or Medicaid, follow a different rule. They earn 1 point per $1 of your out-of-pocket cost, not a flat amount.
Gift cards
Most third-party gift cards earn 2 points per $1. That makes them the highest regular earning category, and it’s why people buy gift cards for places they already shop.
Some cards don’t earn anything. Kroger’s FAQ excludes Kroger Family of Companies gift cards, prepaid reloadable debit cards like GO2bank, Green Dot, MoneyPak and Netspend, and Visa or Mastercard variable-load gift cards.
Fred Meyer has an extra rule. Its stores don’t award points on any Visa or Mastercard gift card unless a specific promotion says so.
What doesn’t earn points?
Kroger’s fuel points page says “some items, including adult beverages and tobacco, are not eligible” to earn points. So a $40 wine purchase adds nothing to your balance.
That’s why a receipt total and the points you earned rarely match exactly. The difference is usually alcohol, tobacco or an excluded gift card.
Lottery and other promotions
Some states allow points on lottery purchases during set promotions. These offers depend on state law and age rules, and they aren’t available everywhere.
Kroger notes that earning categories “may vary by location.” If a rate on your receipt looks different from this list, your local store’s rules apply.
The receipt survey bonus
Taking the customer survey printed on your receipt can add a 50-point bonus. The survey page limits this to one bonus every 7 days.
Fifty points alone won’t unlock a reward, but they help you reach the next 100. Our Kroger feedback survey guide walks through every step with screenshots.
Is there a limit on how many points you can earn?
No. Kroger’s FAQ says there is no monthly cap on earning. The real limit is on the other end: how much you can redeem at once, and how long points last.
What are Kroger Points worth?
The value depends on how you use them. The same 100 points are worth a flat $1 at the grocery register, or 10¢ off each gallon at the pump.
| Points | Fuel discount | Groceries |
|---|---|---|
| 100 | 10¢ off per gallon | $1 off |
| 300 | 30¢ off per gallon | $3 off |
| 500 | 50¢ off per gallon | $5 off |
| 1,000 | $1 off per gallon (the usual maximum) | $10 off (the daily maximum) |
Is fuel or groceries the better deal?
It comes down to how many gallons you pump. Each 100 points gives 10¢ off every gallon, so the fuel discount beats $1 off groceries once you buy more than 10 gallons.
Take 1,000 points as an example. On a 15-gallon fill-up, the $1-per-gallon discount saves $15. Spent on groceries, the same points save $10.
The gap grows with a bigger tank. A truck taking 30 gallons would save $30 with fuel, three times the grocery value.
Groceries win if you only top up a few gallons, don’t have a fuel center nearby, or don’t drive. They also win when your points are about to expire and you won’t be buying gas before the deadline.
How do you redeem Kroger Points?
You can use points two ways, and you can split one balance between them.

Using points for fuel
Fuel discounts work at participating Kroger Family fuel centers and partner stations. Kroger lists Shell, bp, Amoco and Turkey Hill among its partners, though these change by region.
At a Kroger fuel center, enter your Alt ID or insert your Rewards card at the pump. Choose how many points to use, pick your fuel grade and start pumping. The discount comes off automatically.
You can also open the Kroger app, tap Kroger Pay, then choose “Use at the pump.” Our guide to where you can use Kroger fuel points covers partner stations and pump steps in more detail.
Using points for groceries
Grocery redemption happens in your digital account, before you check out. Sign in on Kroger.com or the app, view your points balance, and follow the prompts to redeem.
Once redeemed, the reward applies to your next eligible transaction. That can be an in-store trip or an online order for Pickup or Delivery.
Kroger’s instructions say to redeem before checkout. So do it at home or in the parking lot, not at the register.
How much can you redeem at once?
There are separate caps for each reward. On fuel, Kroger allows up to $1 off per gallon on up to 35 gallons per transaction, which works out to a maximum of $35 per fill-up.
Kroger’s FAQ adds that “maximum fuel discount and gallon limits may vary by location.” Some stations allow more than $1 per gallon, and some set a different gallon limit.
On groceries, the limit is 1,000 points ($10 off) per day, per household. If you have 2,500 points, you’d need three separate days to use them all on groceries.
When do Kroger Points expire?
Points expire on the last day of the month after the month you earned them. Kroger’s own example: points earned any time in March expire on April 30.

That means the time you have depends on when in the month you earn. Points from October 1 last until November 30, about two months. Points from October 31 also expire November 30, just one month later.
Grocery rewards follow the same clock. Kroger says both points and redeemed “dollars off groceries” expire on that schedule, so redeeming for groceries doesn’t buy you extra time.
How to use points before they expire
Check your balance near the end of each month. The receipt shows it after every purchase, and the website and app update it in real time.
At Kroger fuel centers you can choose which month’s points to use, so pick the batch that expires first. Partner stations make that choice for you and use your oldest points first.
If you have fewer than 100 points about to expire, you can’t redeem them on their own. The only fix is to earn enough before the deadline to reach the next 100.
How do you check your Kroger Points balance?
Kroger lists three places to see your balance:
- The bottom of your receipt after each purchase
- Your digital account on Kroger.com
- The Kroger app
Kroger says the balance updates in real time. To view it online, you need a digital account linked to your Rewards card or Alt ID.
Don’t have one yet? Our Kroger Rewards sign-up guide explains how to create the account and set up an Alt ID.
A worked example: one month of points
Numbers make the rules easier to follow. Here’s a made-up household that shops at Kroger once a week and spends about $150 each trip on regular groceries.
| Source | Points earned |
|---|---|
| 4 grocery trips at $150 (1 point per $1) | 600 |
| One $50 third-party gift card (2 points per $1) | 100 |
| One 30-day prescription, not federally funded | 25 |
| Receipt survey bonus, taken once | 50 |
| Total for the month | 775 |
Say these points were all earned in October. They expire on November 30, so the household has until then to use them.
At the pump, 700 of those points give 70¢ off per gallon. On a 14-gallon fill-up, that saves $9.80, and the leftover 75 points carry on toward the next 100.
On groceries, the same 700 points would take $7 off. In this case fuel comes out ahead, because the fill-up is over 10 gallons.
A simple routine that keeps points from expiring
Most people lose points because they forget about them, not because the rules are hard. A short monthly habit fixes that.
- In the last week of each month, check your balance on the app or your latest receipt.
- Find the points that expire at the end of the month. These are the ones you earned last month.
- If you’ll buy gas before the deadline, save them for the pump and pick the oldest month first.
- If you won’t, redeem them for groceries in your digital account, up to $10 per day.
- Take the receipt survey on your next trip if you’re just short of the next 100 points.
This takes about two minutes a month. It’s the difference between a $10 grocery discount and points that simply disappear.
Can you still save on gas without points?
Yes. Rewards members get 3¢ off per gallon at participating fuel locations even without redeeming any points.

Kroger says this discount’s availability varies by location. It’s still worth giving your Alt ID every time you fill up, since it costs nothing.
Can you use Kroger Points in another state?
Yes. Kroger’s FAQ says points “travel with you” across its family of brands. You can redeem them at participating Kroger Family stores, fuel centers and partner stations nationwide.
So points earned at a Kroger in Ohio work at a Ralphs fuel center in California or a King Soopers in Colorado. Use Kroger’s store locator to find participating stations along a road trip.
Do Kroger Boost members earn more points?
Yes, on most purchases. Kroger’s June 2026 announcement says Boost members earn 2X Points on purchases made with their reward card.
Some purchases are left out of the Boost bonus. Kroger’s footnote excludes pharmacy prescriptions, tobacco, gift cards, money services, lottery, postage stamps, The Little Clinic, delivery tips and Boost fees.
Whether Boost pays off depends on your spending. Our Kroger Boost guide runs the numbers.
Common reasons points go missing
Most missing-points problems trace back to one of a few causes. Check these before you call.
| Problem | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| No points from a purchase | Card or Alt ID wasn’t used at checkout | Keep the receipt and contact Kroger Customer Care |
| Fewer points than expected | Some items or gift cards don’t earn | Compare with the earning rules above |
| Balance suddenly dropped | Older points reached their expiration date | Check your balance on Kroger.com or in the app |
| Survey bonus missing | A bonus was already earned in the past 7 days | Wait a week before the next survey |
| Fuel discount not applied | Points weren’t selected at the pump | Ask the fuel center attendant before paying |

Common questions about Kroger Points
Can you transfer Kroger Points to another person?
Kroger’s FAQ doesn’t describe a way to transfer points between accounts. The balance belongs to the account linked to your Rewards card or Alt ID.
Do Kroger Points work at Ralphs, Fred Meyer and King Soopers?
Yes. Kroger says points can be used across its family of brands at participating stores and fuel centers.
Can you use points on an online order?
Yes. Redeem them for groceries in your digital account first, and the discount applies to your next eligible order, including Pickup and Delivery.
Can you redeem points for groceries and gas in the same month?
Yes. You can split your balance however you like, as long as you stay within the daily grocery limit and the per-transaction fuel limit.
Why does my receipt still say Fuel Points?
Some systems still use the old name. Kroger renamed Fuel Points to Points in June 2026, and both refer to the same balance.
Do points expire if I redeem them for groceries but don’t shop?
Yes. Kroger’s FAQ says dollars off groceries follow the same expiration schedule as points, so plan to shop before the end of the following month.
